Friday football: Lobos, Cavaliers win

Los Amigos 38, Rancho Alamitos 0

It was a stunning upset as the Lobos blanked the Vaqueros Friday night at Bolsa Grande Stadium in the Garden Grove League opener.

Los Amigos (4-2 overall, 1-0 in league) established itself as a strong contender over defending champion Rancho (4-2, 0-1) with the one-sided win. Geraldo Salvidar rushed for two scores and 195 yards in the victory.

Next week, the Lobos will play another crucial against Garden Grove Thursday at the Argo home field in a contest which could decide the GGL crown. Rancho will seek to get back on track on Friday against Bolsa Grande

 

Santiago 28, Bolsa Grande 21

In a game of big plays, the deciding one came on a four-yard run in the closing moments. Michael Arteaga scored the winning touchdown with 35 seconds to play for the Cavaliers (3-3, 1-0). He finished with 169 yards and two TDs.

Bolsa (1-5, 0-1) was led by Michael Marquez, who ran for 147 yards and two scores, on runs of 65 and 50 yards.

Santiago will next face La Quinta at Bolsa Grande Stadium. The Matadors play Rancho Alamitos.

 

Tustin 56, Pacifica 0

The Mariners fell behind early and never got untracked as they lost to the Empire League favorites Friday night at the Tiller field. Nick Howard provided most of the Mariner offense, passing for 108 yards.

Pacifica (3-3, 1-10) will host Western Thursday night at Bolsa Grande Stadium.
