No magnet school for Westminster yet

There is no magnet school set for Westminster as of yet, however, by next year there will be school programs that mimic one in education focus.

A “STEAM Program” that will promote science, technology, engineering and math received approval from the school board Thursday night at Westminster School District’s board meeting.

The topic of having a magnet school in the district was brought up and proposed by Board President Sergio Contreras.

Contreras has had this idea on his mind for a while, said Trish Montgomery, WSD’s public information officer.

The program will be detailed over the next year and all schools in WSD will be able to apply to have one implemented, as the programs are optional to the education curriculum.

Also, if a school has a STEAM Program, there will still be the regular educational topics in school such as English, arts, history and other general coursework.

The programs are to be initially available at the elementary and middle school levels.
