Thursday prep football: Rancho, Grove, Orange win

Orange 45, Segerstrom 33

The Panthers pulled off the local upset of the year Thursday at Fred Kelly Stadium when they stunned the number one-ranked team in the CIF Southern Division.

Aaron Aguilar was the main man for Orange (now 5-3 overall and 2-1 in the Golden West League). He scored five touchdowns and rushed for 226 yards for the night. Quarterback Lorenzo Rosario was also sharp, throwing for 147 yards, one touchdown and a two-point conversion.

Next up for the Panthers is Ocean View on Thursday.

Garden Grove 70, Santiago 0

It was another lop-sided victory for the Argonauts (6-2, 3-0 in the Garden Grove League) at home Thursday. Grove got four touchdowns from C.J. Del Real (three rushing and one on a pass reception). Sione Masoe added two scores and quarterback Angel Martinez threw for two scores.

Grove led 51-0 at halftime after a 44-point outburst in the second quarter.

The Argonauts next face traditional rival Rancho Alamitos (6-2, 2-1) on Friday at the Grove field. Santiago (3-5, 1-2) hosts Los Amigos on Thursday at Garden Grove Stadium.

Rancho Alamitos 63, La Quinta 6

The Vaqueros (6-2, 2-1) rolled up a 49-0 halftime lead and coasted to the easy win Thursday at Bolsa Grande Stadium. Falani Fiaseu scored three touchdowns for the Vaqs but was only the fourth-leading rusher for his team. Kevin Duquet scored one TD and ran for 95 yards, including a 73-yard ramble.

La Quinta (3-5, 1-2) got its sole score on 10-yard pass by Don Tran, his only completion of the night.

Rancho next faces long-time rival Garden Grove on Friday at Garden Grove Stadium. La Quinta visit Bolsa Grande on Friday.

Kennedy 26, Western 3

The once-promising Pioneer season continued to get depressing with the Empire League loss Thursday night at Handel Field.

Only a 44-yard field goal by Dylan Alamia in the third quarter put Western (3-6, 0-5) on the board as the team suffered its fifth straight loss.

The Pioneers will conclude their 2012 campaign Thursday at Tustin.
