Kaye’s Kitchen, a landmark on Garden Grove’s historic Main Street, will begin operating under new owners today (Thursday).
The Silva family,who established the diner in 1953 as Tony’s, has sold the restaurant to family friend Jim Schierberl. The new owner is a veteran of restaurant management, with experience with Hof’s Hut, Hof’s Bar and Grill, Coco’s and Carrows.
He is also a local, having attended Garden Grove High School and worked with the Silvas when their restaurant was known as Jorene’s.
“It was just good timing,” according to Mike Silva, the family member who’s been overseeing the restaurant since his parents John and Kaye retired. “Jim was looking to operate his own restaurant and the … family was looking for a long-term owner to take over the family business.”
The new owner intendsto expand hours and maintain Kaye’s food quality and personal service.
Kaye’s is located at 12939 Main St., north of Costco.
