Playing their CIF-SS Southern Division opener at home, the Argonauts jumped out to an early lead and went on to the win Friday night.
In a rematch with the team they defeated 31-30 to win the 2010 CIF title, the Argos scored twice in the first quarter and never looked back. Angel Martinez threw for 164 yards and one touchdown; the Masoe Brothers (Sione and Maze) combined for three touchdowns and 106 yards; C.J. Del Real had one score and 96 yards rushing.
Garden Grove (9-2) faces Segerstrom in the second round.
Los Amigos 41, Estancia 14
Star running back Jerry Saldivar led the way for the Lobos (8-3) in their Southern Division CIF playoff opener Friday at Estancia High. He ran for 223 yards and three touchdowns.
Also starring for the Lobos was Anthony Magana, who threw for 72 yards and two scores. Los Amigos was assisted by seven Eagle turnovers.
Northwood 41, Rancho Alamitos 13
A close game turned into a rout after halftime as the Vaqueros lost their CIF Southern Division playoff first round game Friday at Irvine High School.
Rancho (7-4) trailed only 21-13 at the half, but couldn’t get into the end zone after intermission. The Vaqs got 185 yards passing from Matt Culbert. He threw for one touchdown to Robert Torres, who added a 4-yard scoring run later.
Woodbridge 20, Westminster 17
The Golden West League champs saw their 2012 season come to an end Friday night at home when they lost to the visiting Warriors in the CIF Southern Division playoffs first round.
Two fourth quarter fumbles cost the Lions (6-5). Steven Anderson passed for 174 yards and David Fludd ran for two scores for Westminster.
