Monday briefing: “Lincoln’ and prayer breakfast

Daniel Day-Lewis in ‘Lincoln.’

MEETINGS:  All three local city councils are meeting this week.

The Garden Grove council meets at 6:30 in its chambers in the Community Meeting Center, 11300 Stanford Ave.  Topping the agenda are zone changes and development standards for a proposed hotel-entertainment complex on Harbor Boulevard.

The Stanton council meets with a light agenda at 6:30 p.m. in the City Hall, 7800 Katella Ave.

Parking requirements for centers with restaurant uses, along with a permit for live entertainment will be on the agenda for Wednesday’s 7 p.m. meeting of the Westminster City Council at its chambers, 8200 Westminster Blvd.

MOVIES:  Although it opened in limited release in Los Angeles last week, the big film opening area-wide this weekend is “Lincoln,” directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Daniel Day-Lewis.

Also in the cast are Sally Field, Hal Holbrook and Tommy Lee Jones. The film covers the last few months of the 16th president’s life as he battled to get Congress to approve a constitutional amendment banning slavery.

If that’s too serious for you, also in theaters this week is ‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2.”  Vampires and werevolves and love, oh, my!

EVENTS:  The annual Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast in Garden Grove this Thursday at 7:30 p.m. will have as its speaker Father Christopher Smith, rector of the new Christ Cathedral (formerly the Crystal Cathedral). The event will be held at the Community Meeting Center, 11300 Stanford Ave.
