Grove beats Breakers, heads to title game

Garden Grove High’s football team advanced to the CIF–SS Southern Division finals with a 35-21 semifinal win over Laguna Beach Friday night on the Argo field.

Grove (11-2) was led by Angel Martinez, who threw for 177 yards and one touchdown, along with C.J. Del Real, who ran for 175 yards and scored a pair of TDs. In handing the visiting Breakers their first defeat of 2012, Grove compiled a 28-14 halftime lead and went on to the victory.

The Argonauts will face defending champion Corona del Mar (11-2) in the title game next Saturday (Dec. 1) at Angel Stadium in Anaheim at 2 p.m.  It will be Grove’s third trip to the CIF finals in four years. The Argonauts won the CIF Southern Division title in 2010 with a 31-30 victory over Beckman.
