GG planners consider hotel expansion

A three-year time extension on the construction of a major expansion to the Embassy Suites hotel will be before the Garden Grove Planning Commission on Thursday.

Planners will meet in the council chambers in the Community Meeting Center, 11300 Stanford Ave. at 7 p.m.

The extension would keep alive recession-delayed plans to add a new 17-story, 238-room hotel tower to the existing 374-room hotel, along with 56,000-square feet of new banquet and meeting rooms to the existing facility. The expansion would take place on the land now used for a golf driving range.

In addition to the hotel spaces, there would be a new restaurant and spa and renovation of circulation and parking arrangements in the hotel district on the west side of Harbor Boulevard, north of Chapman Avenue.

Also on the agenda for Tuesday night will be a request for a conditional use permit to allow the operation of a state-licensed adult residential care facility for the mentally disabled for 26 residents at 8592 Lampson Ave., east of Dale Street.

This is a modification of an existing facility allowing for expansion from 18 residents by adding three bedrooms.
