The Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange held its first event at the future Christ Cathedral (now the Crystal Cathedral) in Garden Grove Friday night. Despite a light rain, close to a thousand people turned out to participate in the Las Posadas event, which was a procession to locations around the cathedral campus at Lewis Street and Chapman Avenue re-enacting the Biblical story of Joseph and Mary seeking shelter on the eve of what is now Christmas. Praying and singing accompanied the march, which concluded at the cathedral sanctuary with a Spanish-language mass. The cathedral will assume its new name and role by June 2013.
