Hesla leading Argonauts

highfiveGarden Grove High’s boys’ basketball team won three games over the weekend and improved their record to 7-5, ranking them fourth in the Journal’s weekly High 5 of top basketball teams in the Garden Grove-Stanton-Westminster area.

Junior Mitchell Hesla led the Argonauts, scoring 22 points against Saddleback and 22 more against Century in a pair of wins in the Garden Grove Tournament. The Argonauts, who finished second in the Garden Grove League last season, look to contend for the title against Los Amigos (9-4) when league play starts in January.

Western moved to the top of the High 5 with an 8-3 mark.

On the girls’ side, Westminster (11-1) is ranked first. Maggie Dumphy scored 18 in the Lions’ rout of Tesoro Saturday. Ruby Rivera of Pacifica scored 21 points in the Mariners’ (7-3) win over La Puente.
