MEETINGS: Most government meetings scheduled for this week have been cancelled or postponed with the regular schedules resuming in January.
MOVIES: A bunch of new movies will be opening on Christmas Day in the area. Among the most prominent are:
• “Django Unchained”: A new Quentin Tarantino movie starring Jamie Foxx, Christopher Waltz and Leo DiCaprio. Two years before the Civil War, a slave tries to free his wife. Rated R.
• “Les Miserables”: The umpteenth version of this classic of a criminal turned straight but who is hunted by a by-the-book policeman will star Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe and Anne Hathaway. It’s PG-13, and the singing is done not in the studio but when scenes are being shot, for a more authentic feel.
• “Parental Guidance”: Billy Crystal and Bette Midler star as grandparents babysitting spoiled kids. Rated PG. Also starring Marisa Tomei.
