With Christmas in the rear-view mirror, high school basketball tournament action is heating up as a final preliminary to the start of league play.
The Garden Grove and Golden West leagues will start their schedules on Jan. 9. The Empire and Orange leagues will tip off on Jan. 4.
In boys’ basketball action this week, Westminster and Orange are in the Orange Holiday Classic. The Century Elks Holiday Classic includes Rancho Alamitos , while Magnolia plays in the Whittier Christian Tournament.
In girls’ basketball, Los Amigos is in the Costa Mesa Winter Classic. The Garden Grove Girls Varsity Tournament will include Garden Grove, Pacifica, Orange and Westminster.
Across town at Santiago High School, the Cavalier Classic will include the host Cavs as well as Rancho Alamitos.
