Garden Grove police officers and Orange County sheriff’s deputies arrested a man early today (Thursday) after a pursuit that ended up in the parking lot of a fast-food restaurant in Stanton.
According to Sgt. Rick Wagner of the GGPD, Joshua MiKulay of Tustin was booked for attempted armed robbery and flight to evade arrest into Orange County Jail in Santa Ana as well as vehicle theft charges.
The incident began in the 7500 block of Santa Rita Circle in Garden Grove around 6 a.m. Police were informed of a man armed with a gun demanding money from people arriving at their workplace.
Two GGPD officers arrived at the scene and the suspect fled in his vehicle. The chase went north of Western Street and east on Katella. The suspect vehicle drove right past the Orange County sheriff substation on Cedar Street, then stopped.
The suspect ran on foot east into the shopping area next to the McDonald’s facing Beach Boulevard. Deputies and GGPD officers cornered him, and he was “uncooperative,” according to Sgt. Wagner. He was taken into custody after a struggle.
According to police, MiKulay had a shaved master key in the ignition of the car he was driving, and is on parole for auto theft. The vehicle was reported stolen in Santa Ana.
