A Garden Grove elementary school was locked-down Thursday afternoon as a man armed with rifles walked near the school.
According to police spokesman Lt. Jeff Nightengale, officers were sent to a home in the 11600 block of Gilbert Street in Garden Grove around 2 p.m.
A man, identified as Justin Costa, 23, reportedly had fled the home after allegedly threatening to harm his mother and stepfather. The suspect was spotted walking with a rifle bag containing two rifles.
Gilbert Elementary School, located at Gilbert Street and Orangewood Avenue, was locked-down as a precaution.
Costa turned himself in to police, being taken into custody at Ball Road in Anaheim. The weapons were not found, and Costa was booked into Orange County Jail on the charge of making criminal threats and for outstanding arrest warrants.

Thank you so much for this update. I had heard about it but there wasn’t anything in the news… You guys are awesome!!!
Thanks again.
Thanks for the update. With all the excitement that day, I can’t believe nobody else picked up this story. I live a few houses away from Gilbert School and helicopters circled overhead until the early evening. It took hours for the school lock down to unwind and Garden Grove police were everywhere. Coming home to this scene was terrifying. I’m very glad nobody was hurt.
