According to the latest figures released by the state Department of Employment Development, joblessness in Orange County overall fell from 7.1 to 6.5 percent.
In Garden Grove, the unemployment rate fell from 8.9 percent to 8.5 percent. The figure for Stanton showed a decrease from 11.5 to 10.6 percent and for Westminster from 7.9 to 7.3 percent.
Across Orange County, an estimated 14,300 jobs were gained. The biggest gains were in government (5000 jobs) and in business and professional jobs (4,600).
Declines were in trade, transportation and utilities (3,900 lobs) led by reductions in retail trade (3,400).
The estimates of unemployment by city are not actual counts, such as in a census, but statistical projections based on past economic patterns.
Rates for other nearby cities included:
• Anaheim: 8.4 percent.• Cypress: 6.9 percent.
• Fountain Valley: 5.4 percent.
• Orange: 6 percent.
• Santa Ana: 10.5 percent.
• Seal Beach: 4.8 percent.
