A home run blast in the sixth inning handed the Santiago Cavaliers their first loss of the Garden Grove League baseball season Thursday, but the purple-and-white remain atop the GGL race.
Chris Rosato hammered the winning solo dinger that lifted Rancho Alamitos to the 3-2 victory. However, Santiago stayed first with a 5-1 mark (6-5) overall. Rancho is tied with Garden Grove for second with a 4-1 league mark. The Vaqs are 7-6 overall.
Garden Grove stayed the race with an 11-0 hammering of Bolsa Grande. The Argos are 4-1 in league and 10-1 on the season. Bolsa fell to 2-3 (good for fourth place) and 4-5. Also, La Quinta (1-4, 3-10) defeated Los Amigos (0-6, 2-9).
In girls’ softball action Thursday, Pacifica clouted Western 15-0 to improve to 2-1 in Empire League play and 10-5 overall. Ruby Rivera went 3-for-4 with two doubles and five RBIs. Kaley Carlson picked up her five win, giving up just two hits and one walk.
Non-league softball action saw Westminster beat Santiago 10-2 and La Quinta edge Santa Ana 1-0. Also, Fountain Valley squeaked by Rancho Alamitos 5-4.
