Local firefighters have been busy this week, battling not just local blazes but also helping to fight wildfires in the Los Angeles area.
A fire engine was dispatched Friday to Camarillo to work the Springs fire there. The Garden Grove Fire Department is part of the statewide mutual aid system where fire agencies all over California can be called up when local resources aren’t enough.
On Thursday, GGFD units responded to a fire in the 12000 block of Russell Circle at 11:42 a.m. A palm tree fire that was quickly spreading to adjacent trees was underway, with strong winds blowing embers toward nearby rooftops.
The fire was contained to the trees, and there was no damage to the homes.
On Wednesday, local firefighters were dispatched to the 9400 block on Tudor Lane in response to a garage and car fire. A car had driven up the driveway and into the garage and gas meter, igniting a blaze, according to the GGFD.
The driver of the car had been pulled to safety by a neighbor, and the fire was contained to the garage.
After the gas was shut off, the Anaheim Fire Department’s Urban Search and Rescue team shored up the garage to prevent collapse.
