A mental patient whom Garden Grove police had declared “dangerous” was back at his treatment facility Saturday.
According to Lt. John Keely of the Garden Grove Police Department, Norris Phuoc Nguyen, 23, voluntarily returned to the facility in Santa Ana about 24 hours after he walked away.
Police sent out an alarm and a plea for public assistance after Nguyen left the facility. According to authorites, Nguyen was being treated for various mental issues and “should be considered dangerous.” Authorities say that Nguyen has a fixation on a certain elementary school in Garden Grove and his intention is to take “total control” of the school.
Nguyen told police that during his absence, he had gone to visit a nearby friend’s house. Police believe “at this time is does not appear that he committed any crimes while away from the facility.”
Numerous calls referring to possible sightings of Nguyen were made to local police agencies. “We want to thank the community for their efforts to try and locate Nguyen so that he may receive the treatment he requires,” said Lt. Keely.
