A man accused of sexually assaulting a preteen girl in a Garden Grove motel in 1995 and continuing a relationship with her for over a year is facing felony charges at a pre-trial hearing set for July 17.
According to the Orange County District Attorney’s office, Vanna Hong was 28 years old when he met the victim – identified only as “Jane Doe” – while he was visiting Orange County from Rhode Island. Authorities allege he drove or flew to California several times between March 1995 and February 1996 and took her to a motel in Garden Grove and had unlawful sexual intercourse with her.
From March 1995 to February 1996 he is accused of taking her to the Alamo Hotel in Anaheim where he engaged in several sexual acts with the girl. Further, it’s alleged that he forcibly raped the girl between March and September 1996.
In January of 2011, the suspect is said to have contacted her through Facebook and arranged to meet her, even though she was now married to a law enforcement officer. The victim contacted authorities about the sexual assaults against her as a child. Hong was arrested on June 1, 2012 when he arrived at the Los Angeles International Airport to meet the victim.
The hearing is set for 8:30 a.m. in the North Justice Center in Fullerton. The hearing was originally set for August 2012, then postponed to June 2013.
