According to the Garden Grove Fire Department, the blaze was reported at 3:21 p.m. in the 12000 block of Hester Place on Wednesday, July 3. Hester is located southwest of the shopping district at Brookhurst Street and Chapman Avenue.
Firefighters arriving on the scene saw five to six cypress trees fully involved. The fire from the trees were close enough to a nearby house to do some damage to the structure’s roof, eaves and a fence.
With a rapid attack firefighters were able to stop the blaze from spreading into the house. There were no injuries reported.
Roof fires around Independence Day are often caused by illegal airborne fireworks. Possession or use of such fireworks are punishable by a $1000 fine.
Four Garden Grove units responded to the blaze, along with one from Anaheim and one from the Orange County Fire Authority.
